Unofficially, Labor Day marks the end of the Summer season. When most vacation time ends and folks head back to the city or their hometowns to get back to the grind. There are many reasons why the “No white after Labor Day” rule, but in fashion, rules are meant to be broken. Stemming from the high society of the early 1900’s, white and light colors symbolized the look of leisure Summer and returning to the city for work, not only was white impractical during the rainy fall weather, but darker colors were considered more business appropriate, as pointed out in Time Magazine.
