Summer at the J.W. Marriott Hill Country Resort

Photo via
My birthday was almost 2 months ago and we finally got to do the plan we had originally set up for the day. We had planned to spend the day at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, but the storm rolled in and we had to postpone. We finally had the chance to go and the day was absolutely perfect! The sun was shining, the pool was cool and the husband and I were extremely relaxed. The best part was when the checkin girl said she loved my outfit, so naturally we had to do a mini shoot, haha! In all, the experience was great. The resort has a huge pool, an adult infinity pool overlooking the golf course, a sandy beach pool, a heated whirlpool, a lazy river you can float with the provided inner tubes and a full on waterpark grade slide. We opted to cool off and just relax, though. One thing’s for sure, the food and drinks are highly overpriced and you can’t bring anything from outside, but who’s to say your insulated water thermos is actually water? Just saying… Aside from that, the staff is attentive and the relaxation is well worth it. A Day Pass grants you access to all the water activities and the game room for the kids, as well. I might opt for the Spa Pass next time. The Lantana Spa has amazing reviews so I might just check it out. This Summer I plan on enjoying myself and continue to discover what Texas has to offer. Rivers, lakes, hiking and, pool time and outdoor fun is what is all about!

Prada Marfa

The famous Prada Marfa exhibit had been on my Texas Adventure Bucket list. You’ve seen the iconic photos, artwork and high fashion magazine spreads. The Prada Marfa installation in the middle of the West Texas desert is like a myth, far and unattainable. While we were staying in Marfa, mostly relaxing with the relaxed vibes and practically paused pace of the entire town, I was pretty excited to get the chance to visit the spot and take some great photos. I couldn’t believe that my husband would actually be down for a cute couples shot, but I just went for it, set up the tripod with the timer and got such a great photo, that we’re gonna blow it up and get it framed for our Master Bedroom! Check out the photos and see for yourself. The 6 hour drive from San Antonio, totally worth it!
Prada Marfa is a permanently installed sculpture by artists Elmgreen and Dragset, situated 1.4 miles (2.3 km) northwest of Valentine, Texas, just off U.S. Highway 90 (US 90), and about 26 miles (42 km) northwest of the city of MarfaThe installation was inaugurated on October 1, 2005. The artists called the work a “pop architectural land art project”. The installation is just another demonstration of the highly artistic community established in the area. People from all over the world, including major celebrities, have taken photos in front of the structure. It’s pretty damn cool that I finally got to visit and take my very iconic shot there, too!

Cosmic Vibes in Marfa

I’ve been wanting to visit Marfa pretty much since I moved to Texas. I’d read about it and seen gorgeous photography in major fashion magazines taken at key spots in this West Texas town that is now iconic and it’s been on my bucket list ever since. Why is Marfa so special? Marfa is city in the high desert of the Trans-Pecos in far West Texas, between the Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park. In the early 70’s, artist Donald Judd moved to Marfa from New York City. He basically turned Marfa into his personal artist’s playground, laying the groundwork to transform buildings into art spaces. Today, the city is a tourist destination and a major center for minimalist art. With two art foundations, the Chinati Foundation and Building 98, Marfa invites artists, collectors and enthusiasts from all around the world to appreciate the art. The other great attraction in Marfa is it’s mysterious lights. The Marfa Ghost lights have been said to be seen from Highway 90, right outside the entrance to the city. There have been many possible explanations to the phenomenon, from atmospheric phenomena, to car lights to a gas leak, but all inconclusive. Regardless of the origin, spectators flock to see these mystery lights in hopes that there is something eerie causing, adding to the fun of visiting Marfa.

I researched where to stay and hands down the best place to get the real Marfa “experience” is at El Cosmico. It’s Glamping at it’s finest. When I searched it online years ago, the first thing that drew me in was the tee-pee experience. We so badly wanted to stay inside one! Unfortunately they were booked for the date we planned to go, but we got to stay in a Safari Tent, which was immensely cool! The grounds also have  yurts and fun colored airstreams, but we felt that a safari tent or a teepee for as far “glamping” as we wanted to go and it would be a more authentic experience that way. The showers are “al fresco” which was secured, but an interesting experience nonetheless and the restrooms have the feeling of an outhouse, but are very clean and with running water. The best part, really was hanging out in front of our tent at night, blankets and wine in hand, talking and staring at the stars. It’s so peaceful out there and the perfect getaway from the day to day.

El Cosmico is pet friendly, too!

Floral Romper & Rose Curls

Hello, Lotuses! I hope you’re enjoying the last part of Summer. This Texas heat is no joke! Last weekend we had a record breaking temperature of 105 F, but that didn’t stop me from going out to support the local events being held that day. Although, when I got home I totally crashed from exhaustion! At any rate, I wanted to share how much I love this new romper I found at none other than Ross, and of course it was a total steal! It’s cotton so the fabric was perfect and breezy. I just love it. I thought I’d wear heels that day, but I found these flat slip ons and I’ve been wearing them none stop for the last month. The ruffle detail is the perfect delicate flair I need in flats. So, I’m not sure if you noticed, but I went a little pink for my birthday a few months ago, and I’ve been able to maintain the color without damaging my hair or spending a fortune. My bff introduced me to Overtone and I’m obsessed! They have color conditioners and weekly deep treatments that refresh my color and protect my curls just by depositing the color on my existing highlights. I think I’m going lavender next. What do you think?

Me encanta.

Summer in the Texas Hill Country

Hello, lovely lotuses! Last week, I took the week off acting as tour guide showing around my brother in law who came to visit us from Puerto Rico. We went everywhere! We took them all around downtown, from the Alamo, to the Tower of Americas and the Riverwalk. We went tubing down the Comal, a brief dessert on the Lake in Austin and, of course, Fredericksburg. This quaint German town has completely stolen my heart and I take every chance I get to visit. Anytime a family member comes to visit, we take them and they fall in love, too. Only 1.5 hours away from San Antonio, this town in the Texas Hill Country is home to all of the best Texas wineries, including my all time favorite, Grape Creek Vineyards. Relaxing on the deck, sipping wine with soothing music playing in the background is my absolute favorite pastime. We took our guests on a Tuesday afternoon, with a picnic basket filled with delicious cheeses, french bread, charcuterie and spreads. It was lovely! Perfect Summer staycation in Texas!

Fuimos a todas partes!

I’d like to take a moment to make a request. If you can take a quick moment to click on the link under photo below and nominate me for Blogger of the Year for the 2017 San Antonio Fashion Awards. I’ve been blogging close to 4 years now, and it has been so much fun showing you guys my outfits, part of my fitness journey and travel adventures. I appreciate you all taking the time to stop by my blog and following along with me. Thank you all so much!

Falling for You

I absolutely love the change of seasons! Unfortunately, Texas only has 2 seasons, Hot and Slightly Less Hot. Just kidding, temperatures drop in December, but it still doesn’t snow here in South Texas. So, because the weather is so much warmer in the South, we’re able to wear our favorite Fall looks, with a warm-weather twist. I found this adorable long sleeved, short romper with the perfect Autumn Floral print, and this faux-suede fringe vest at Zelle Boutique. It’s definitely a great look for this Fall, and so on trend and perfect for frolicking though vineyards. BTW, Texas vineyards are wonderful! Fredericksburg is chock full of them and if you remember my Birthday post, my favorite is Grape Creek Vineyards. I’m a Wine Club Member so I can come visit, get free tasting, discounts on my food and wine purchases and I get a shipment of 3 bottles every season. (This isn’t a sponsored post, I just love them that much!)

Me encanta el cambio de las estaciones! Lamentablemente, en Texas sólo hay 2 estaciones. Caliente y Un Poco Menos Caliente.

A Walk in the Courtyard

Summertime is just such a great time to discover new things in your city! Last month, I went to Second Thursdays at the McNay Museum in San Antonio. This place is absolutely beautiful. They hold such a fantastic art collection, but what really draws me in are the events they hold. Second Thursdays is great because it’s FREE! They have food trucks, music, and performances. You can walk through the museum or hang out in the courtyard. This courtyard is breathtaking! I had a huge thing for courtyards back in Puerto Rico. many homes had them, especially in Old San Juan, so this is definitely reminiscent of back home. I wore the breeziest romper I bought at a local boutique, Voge, and trust me when I say, you need breezy clothing in this Texas heat!
Tienen comida, música y shows.

It’s my Birthday and I Wine if I want to!

Happy Birthday to me!! I celebrated 34 Springs with my love and good friends in the heart of Texas Wineries. Grape Creek Vineyards is my all time favorite because of the Tuscan style ambiance, amazing wine and great live music. We were gonna do a tour but since I’m a Wine Club Member, we have VIP access to the seated deck area and fantastic discounts on the wine & food pricing. The day was absolutely perfect! I had about about 15 friends join us for an incredibly lovely afternoon. My husband asked me if it was wise to wear a light colored outfit to a winery, so I drank white wine and Rosé, problem solved!

Feliz Cumpleaños a mi!

Warm Fall

Fall is here! Unfortunately, San Antonio hasn’t received the message. It’s still over 90° here! Either way, I’ve started to incorporate Fall pieces into my wardrobe, yet still make it work for this heat. I’ve really been wearing this bandana recently. It was only $1 at Wal-Mart and I really love the color/print. It’s the perfect Fall transition accessory!
He estado usando este pañuelo mucho recientemente.

Wine for Days

This Summer has been pretty fun, so far! From our trip to Puerto Rico to visits from both my parents, we’ve done some fun things. While my Dad was visiting, we went to Fredericksburg, Texas. It’s considered the Wine Country here in the South. I had no idea there was Wine Country in Texas, but it’s actually quite remarkable. Texas wines are so delicious! We visited my favorite vineyard, Grape Creek. The ambiance is Tuscany meets Texas. They have wine tastings, a restaurant, they do tours and you can join the club, too! I totally joined, I did the math and I buy a lot of wine, lol. I just love the ambiance and their wines are award winning. There are many other wineries in Fredericksburg, but this one is by far my favorite.
Visitamos a mi viñedo favorito, Grape Creek.
