International Women’s Day with Global Purpose

Happy International Women’s Day! For this post, I’ve partnered with Global Purpose, an ethical sourcing company, helping brands find ways to operate more sustainably and humanely. I’m wearing a gorgeous beaded scarf and necklace by one of their partners, Village Artisan, all made by women in India. 

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. I strongly believe that we need to stand up, be heard, and fight for our rights. My fight is a peaceful one. My goal is to spread a message of peace and non-violence. Gender violence, reproductive rights and the wage gap are but a few aspects for which I actively advocate, but fair-trade for  artisans and workers around the world is very near to my heart. I’ve spoken about Fair Trade Fashion before, and it’s extremely important to me because it not only does it empower the workers, while ensuring fair pay and safe conditions, but the ethical way in which the clothing/jewelry is made also focuses on environmentally safe practices. 

I’d like to share the different ways I was able to style this beautiful, handcrafted, beaded scarf. Each scarf is created from hand picked vintage saris and lovingly hand stitched.

The Village Artisan Family, part of Global Purpose, with these pieces, has a mission of sharing the story of the artisan women of North India, whose hearts and dreams are carried within these pieces. Their story is on of HOPE, DIGNITY, and EMPOWERMENT that comes from the opportunity to be trained at a skill and to work at a fair wage in a caring community.
