The Curly Cut

It’s time to get that Spring hair makeover! I was way overdo for a cut! With curly hair like mine, it’s so important to constantly cut and shape your hair to keep it bouncy and healthy. Finding a hairdresser for curls can be a daunting experience. I had gotten a few cuts when I moved to San Antonio, but it wasn’t really up to par. In Puerto Rico, my hairdresser was a curly hair specialist (Irene from Wanda Montes) and my hair was exactly how I wanted it for years. I trusted her to the point where I just said “Do whatever you want” and loved it each time I stepped out, but I hadn’t found that since I moved to Texas. Until now. I did my research, of course. I Googled “Natural curls hair salon in San Antonio” and found about 3. I always go by reviews and recommendations, so I found Harmoni Salon on Loop 410 and saw that it had tons of rave reviews. I booked my appointment and it was so full I had to book for a week in advance (that’s always a good sign). They called me immediately after booking online and asked me a few questions about my hair and sent me to a web site to identify my curl type so they know what they would be working with. I was pleasantly surprised with the level of professionalism. The day of my appointment arrived. I’ve never been so excited to wake up at 7 am on a Saturday! My hairdresser was awesome! I showed her a pic of my hair inspo and she got to work right away. She knew exactly what she was doing and gave me recommendations on types of products I should use and the ones I need to stay away from. She also told me about things she could do in future visits. I was so impressed!

Ya es hora de tu makeover primaveral! Ya estaba bien atrás con mi cabello, me hacía falta un recorte hace tiempo. Con cabello rizo como el mío es importante recortarse con frecuencia para mantener el rizo saludable. Encontrar un estilista para rizos puede ser algo aterrador. Me había recortado varias veces desde que me mudé a San Antonio, pero realmente, no dio el grado. En Puerto Rico, tenía una estilista especializada en rizos (Irene de Wanda Montes) y mi cabello estaba exactamente como yo lo quería por años. Yo confiaba tanto en ella que llegué al punto de decirle “Haz lo que quieras” y quedaba brutal. No había encontrado algo así desde que me mudé a Texas, hasta ahora. Tuve que hacer mi investición, por supuesto. Busqué en Google “salon para cabello rizo en San Antonio” y encontré como 3. Siempre me dejo llevar de los reviews y recomendaciones, así que decidí irme con Harmoni Salon en Loop 410 y vi que tenían muy buena recomendación. Tuve que hacer mi cita para una semana despues, así de lleno estaba (eso siempre es buena señal). Me llamaron tan pronto confirmé mi cita en línea para preguntarme sobre mi cabello y me dirigieron hacía una página para identificar mi tipo de rizo y saber con lo que iban a trabajar. Fue una grata sorpresa su nivel de porfesionalismo. Llegó el día de mi cita. Nunca había estado tan emocionada por levantarme un Sábado a las 7 am! Mi estilista fue un éxito! Le enseñé una foto de inspiración y ella se puso a trabajar. Ella sabía exactamente lo que estaba haciendo y me dio recomendaciones de los tipos de productos que debo usar y los que debo evitar. Hasta me dijo cosas que podemos hacer en futuras visitas. Quedé muy impresionada!

Mientras buscaba mi recorte ideal, varias de la tendencias de 2015 me sirvieron de inspiración. Para mi cabello rizo, estaba inclinida hacia una forma que complementara mi rostro.

When it comes to color, I’ve kept it at a Golden Brown (Garnier Nutrisse B3). Naturally, you want to go lighter for Spring/Summer. My hair tends to go red, so I’ll probably get honey highlights, that will compliment my hair really well.

En cuanto al color, llevo un tiempo tiñéndome de Golden Brown (Garnier Nutrisse B3). Naturalmente, uno quiere aclarse el color durante Primavera/Verano. Mi cabello tiende a ponerse rojo, así que tal vez me haga contornos color miel, que complementarían mi color muy bien.

If you’re considering these options for your Spring/Summer hair, my recommendation is to do your research. Don’t be afraid to approach someone that you see on the street and ask them where they got there hair done. Read those reviews and take a picture of your inspo look with you to the salon, so they can get as close to that as possible. Be bold and have fun with it!

Si estás considerando hacerte estos cambios, mi recomendación es que investigues. No tengas miedo de acercarte a alguien cuyo cabello te gusta y preguntarle a qué salón va. Lée las reseñas y lleva un foto de tu inspiración para que el/la estilista pueda tratar de acercarse lo más posible. Se arriesgada y diviértete con tu cabello!
